Project Goal

The goal of this project is to gain knowledge about being vegan as a whole ideology while increasing Vegans life standards.

Design Process

Emphatize Phase

1. Literature Research

Veganism is a way of living that seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, and any other purpose.

Veganism is not defined as a diet, but as a way of living.

2. Online Survey

Google forms were sent to different vegan Facebook groups: Ankara Vegan Workshop,100.Yıl Evleri, ODTÜ Vegan Solidarity.

3. Diary Technique

Online diary sent out to four volunteers. Ask them to fill these diaries for  four days:

Two weekdays
Two weekends

To grasp routines during work days and holidays to have an accurate representation of users' lifestyles
.

Target User Group Characteristics

40% of vegans are professionals or have managerial positions at work. 71% are women 67% adopt vegan lifestyles because of concerns about animal suffering and cruelty.

Other reasons include health problems, the need to lose weight, cut meat from the diet.

Needs / Possibilities / Gaps

Need to increase awareness of vegan issues to a much wider audience, which further normalizes and mainstreams veganism. Legislation to encourage other major retailers to consider introducing more plant-based itemsNeed amongst vegans to portray veganism as easy and achievable as possible.

Why Vegans?

  • Usually stigmatized groups

  • Existing literature is not very specific

  • Misconceptions about a vegan diet

  • Religious and cultural hurdles

Cultural Significance of Veganism

Integrate vegan-diet discipline into their lifestyle

Be an activist through the food

Usually, be a part of the animal rights movement

Avoid mediocrity; being a vegan does not imply that the food vegans consume is somehow less tasty.

Avoid negative energy

Environment-friendly habits that reduce the overall carbon footprint.

"For me it’s not about my own purity, but about being an effective advocate and projecting a positive image that vegans are not the party-pooper that so many people think they are, that they can still join in and have fun"

Vegan User on the why awareness is necessary.

Define Phase

1. Affinity Map

Provides a nonlinear means of externalizing the information in our heads so that we can:

  • Consolidate

  • Interpret

  • Communicate

  • Store

  • Retrieve Information

2. User Empathy Map

Helps us document and sort the feelings of the target users.
Enabled us to interpret and re
trieve subordinate information in the users' minds.
Sometimes users are not able to convey their feelings about certain interactions, the empathy map helps to gauge those feelings in a way that can be used in product development.

Ideation Phase

1. Brainstorming and Sketching

Winner Concept

  • Information based

  • Helps to make vegans' life easier

  • Simple and easy-to-grasp concept

  • Bridges existing gaps in the market for such services

2. SCAMPER

SCAMPER technique enabled us to expand on additional features that might make the application more flexible.

  • Add other target groups who could use the app

  • Adding barcode manually

  • Color theme engine

  • Add extra value by adding a rating feature

Design Phase

1. Low-Fidelity Wireframe

Initial low-fi outline of how the Lets Vegan application interface will look like.

2. UI Design

Test Phase

1. Usability Testing

The interfaces created as a result of insights and research were tested by target users. Feedback received.

  • You should need to add other products besides food. (cosmetic, textile, etc.)

  • More visible background

  • More visible visuals

  • Adding nutrition values

  • Usage is clear and easy

  • Will it increase consumption needs?

  • Adding a part to see where these products can be procured
